Abita Christmas Ale

This looked interesting, so I picked up a six pack. I like it. Nice flavor albeit a little heavy. Good Stuff.

Long Trail Hibernator

Long Trail makes good beer. This one is no exception. Another winter beer that is not over spiced.

Wachusett Winter Ale

I like this, I've yet to find a winter brew that I haven't liked. Usually they are too "holiday" spice-y. This is a good beer to sit down and enjoy on a cozy winter evening.

Gritty's 21 IPA

I bought the Gritty winter mix pack because it was on sale. I tried to find one without this IPA. Luckily for me I couldn't. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It is an IPA that I actually like, and will buy again. Gritty McDuff you make a very good beer!

Sam Adams Chocolate Bock

The last beer firm the Sam Adams Seasonal mix pack. I like this beer, but not as much as the Harpoon Stout. It was good yesterday as dessert for the big T-day feast. Overall the Sam Winter mix pack is very good.

Anchor Brewing 2011 Christmas

I like this one a lot. The spices are understated but definitely there. Thanks to Art for dropping this one off for me to try. Last years was good. This one is worth getting a whole six pack for myself as well.

Gritty's Christmas Ale

I like this seasonal offering from Gritty's. Unlike almost all other seasonals, it's spices are not overpowering. This could be a year round beer. It has nice down to earth flavor.

Sam Adams Old Fezziwig Ale

I enjoy the couple of Old Fezziwig Ales I get in the Sam Adams winter mix pack every season. This year is no different. This years batch tastes just as good as every year.

Sam Adams Black & Brew

New in this years Sam Adams seasonal mix pick is Black & Brew, a coffee stout. I think this maybe the first "coffee" beer that I've had. I don't know what I was expecting, but what I got was a jolt of caffeine. It kept me up that night. Unless the make a decafe, I'm going to have to pass on coffee beers.

Sea Dog Brew Pub

We went to the Sea Dog brewery the other night. "A" got the pumpkin ale, seen here. I had the Riverdiver Hazelnut Stout and the Sea Dog Porter. Very nice place, good food, and the beer was excellent. The Hazelnut was good (sweet) but I should have had it for dessert, instead of with my meal.

Lobster Lovers Beer

I'm not sure where this beer is from, but wherever it came from, they can keep it. Too sweet for me. Maybe it would taste good with lobster, but I didn't have any at the time. I couldn't finish this beer.

Troegs Mad Elf Ale

I was really looking forward to this because I have loved everything that I've tried from Troegs so far. Let me tell you that I totally hated it. It tasted like cherry cough medicine. They bottle says honey & cherry, but that was not what I expected.

Sam Adams Holiday Porter

I picked up the Sam Adams winter mix pack to try the exclusive beer included. I always liked the Holiday Porter, and this one tastes just like I remember.

Heavy Seas Peg Leg Imperial Stout

This looked interesting, so I picked up a six pack. Really good for a stout. I liked the first one I had, the second one, not so much. I guess you have to be in the mood for a stout. Number three was good.

Portsmouth Brewery Oatmeal Stout

We stopped at the Portsmouth Brewery for a beer or two, and I got the Oatmeal Stout. Very nice and full bodied. A good beer to have while enjoying the game.

Troegs Troegenator

Troegs has done it again. This double bock is excellent. I would recommend this beer to people who don't like bocks. I may have to get more because I didn't get many of the first six pack I had: somebody took them.

Magic Hat Howl Black Lager

Magic Hat's Winter seasonal is advertised - black as night. It is also a very good beer. You would expect it to be heavy and stout like, but it's not. It has very nice flavor and is smooth going down. Don't be afraid of the dark, try this one, you will not be disappointed.

Harpoon Chocolate Stout

Another Harpoon holiday beer I couldn't wait for this year. This one is as good as I remember. It has a nice chocolate flavor, and I recommend it highly as either a dessert or when you are in the mood for something sweet.

Sierra Nevada Kellerwies Hefeweizen

I like this Hefeweizen despite the fact it has banana flavoring. It is a nice smooth drinkable beer.

Zywiec Polish Premium Lager

This was leftover from a Polish party, and given to me. The first taste was surprisingly good, but after that it was just a regular mass produced beer.

Harpoon Grateful Harvest

I loved this cranberry ale last year and couldn't wait for it again this year. Maybe my expectations were high or the weather was wrong, but it wasn't as I remembered. Last year the stores were sold out by thanksgiving, but I plan on having some around this year.

Brooklyn Oktoberfest

My last of entry for the fall/Octoberfest beers (a little late) is Brooklyn Oktoberfest. Not a bad brew, but nothing stands out about it either. It now time to move on to the winter/holiday beers.

Gritty's Best Brown Ale

This was another one from Gritty's fall mix pack we got up in Maine. I liked this one more then the pub style. I would probably drink it again if I was in the mood for a Brown Ale.

Gritty's Pub Style Pale Ale

I was looking forward to this one from Gritty's. I was slightly disappointed, but then again it was a pale ale.

Wolavers Pumpkin Ale

Another organic offering from Wolavers. Not the best pumpkin of the season, but not a bad one.

Sunday, October 23, 2011

Gritty's Halloween Ale

This was my first Gritty's brew. I've had others since. I like this one. A very nice ale.

Troegs Dead Reckoning Porter

Another awesome offering from Troegs! I really like this porter.

Southern Tier Harvest Ale

Annette liked this one, I thought it was slightly hoppy.

Uinta Punk'n

I wasn't impressed with this harvest pumpkin ale.

Southampton Pumpkin Ale

This ale was quite good.

Lakefront Brewery's Pumpkin Lager

This Pumpkin Lager Beer wasn't for me.
Lakefront Brewery is from Wisconsin.

Fisherman's Pumpkin Stout

I liked this one. A nice stout with a good light pumpkin taste. It's made locally in Gloucester.

Wachusett Octoberfest

This the second selection from the fall mix pack. I like this offering a little more than the other Octoberfests I've tried so far. I'm not sure why, it seemed very drinkable, if you know what I mean.

Harpoon UFO Pumpkin

I got mix pick of different fall/pumpkin beers to try. The Harpoon Pumpkin was good, you could really taste the pumpkin and the spices. I may try this with a shot of vanilla vodka next time.

Sierra Nevada Tumbler

This Autumn brown ale from Sierra Neveda is a full bodied good beer. It has a little bite for a brown ale, but a nice enjoyable brew.

Saranac Irish Red Ale

I didn't know that Saranac had an Irish Red. Not bad. Not bad at all. I will have to try it again sometime.

Harpoon Octoberfest

I like Harpoon. Their Octoberfest is good. There is nothing really special about it though. I think I would get this over some other "big" brewers October offerings.

Newcastle Werewolf Blood Red Ale

This fall offering is not an Octoberfest, but a good Red Ale. I will buy this one again.

Lake Placid Craft Brewing Hefeweizen

I also picked this up in Vermont. I like this beer, though it different from most Hefeweizens. It seemed a little bolder and fuller, and to me a good beer to drink.

Otter Creek Oktoberfest

I also bought this Vermont beer while camping. It's good as well, but I liked the Long Trail Harvest a little better.

Long Trail Harvest Brown Ale

I picked this up in Vermont while camping. I like this beer, a lot. I've always been a fan of Long Trail, but this seasonal is outstanding. Maybe because it's brewed with a touch of maple syrup, but it hits the spot with me.

Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale

I like Smuttynose, so I thought I'd give their Pumpkin Ale a try. Very nice. Good pumpkin flavor that is not too overpowering.

Sam Adams Octoberfest

I think August is too early for the fall beers, but I decided to try this years batch. Not bad, but not knock you socks off either. Plenty of more fall beers to try.

Wolavers Brown Ale

Wolavers is Otter Creek Brewery's organic beer line. The Brown is quite good, even for being organic.

Monty Python's Holy Grail Ale

I've been wanting to try this one for a while.  With the falls beers out and me thinking it's too early for Oktoberfest, I thought I'd give it a try.  Not bad Really. Nothing that made it stand out, but just a nice beer to drink.

Portsmouth Brewery Hefeweizen & Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale

We stopped in Portsmouth last weekend, visited the brewery for dinner and had a beer.

Or two.

Sierra Nevada Beer Camp

This mix pack features four beers that are "the best of". I hated the double IPA. The others were just ok. Maybe my expectations were too high.

Ballast Point Calico Amber Ale

Not a bad amber ale, a little bitter for my taste though. Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits is located in San Diego California.

Newport Storm Summer Ale

I stopped by my new favorite beer store, Redstone Liquors in Stoneham, and picked up a couple of new ales to try. This is the first one a tried.
A nice cool refreshing Summer ale, a little hoppy for my taste, but not bad.
